Originally from Michigan, Selena Hautamaki is a graphic artist, painter, and experimental videographer. Her works have been featured in several art galleries, television commercials, marketing tools in Finland, and several Midwest film festivals. She received her BFA degree from Northern Michigan University in 2006 and decided to move to a warmer climate. She is currently striving to make an impact in the Atlanta area.

The point of the blog is just to show some really good work that didn't win!
If the pieces I have chosen aren't up to your standards, I apologize.
I guess our opinions are different.
There will still be other blog features as well. (Although I believe the explanation of the tagline will be on the discussion portion of the actual RFB)
So check back for those! Seriously, you are by no means obligated to view these if you don't see the value in just promoting good work.

Erikz, if you don't like the blog, then why are you here commenting on it? I don't mean any offense either. You are entitled to your opinion. But if you don't like it, then just don't watch it. Coming out with a comment like that is unnecessary and, frankly, rude to Fred. Just block it out.

I am commenting on the blog because I come on this site and I am always hearing from the people at genius rocket about how to make this site better. I dont see how this is rude to fred. I never said that any of the work shown here was not up to my standard. Fred you need to be careful about how you are responding to the people who make your job possible, us. Don't make me look like a design snob , I am just giving you some constructive criticism about your blog that doesn't really add anything to this site. Some people may like it fine, i think it's pointless. Are you guys thinking about giving any rewards to the failures. Can we vote on the failures? Can i have my own blog on here that showcases work that I think is great and work that i think is bad. At least think about changing the name or something. How many designers did you contact that didnt want their work showcased on epic failure? I wouldn't want my work on an epic failure show, maybe i would want my second , third , or last place work on a video blog called great runners up or something.
Genius Rocket you should give 50 bucks to peoples who's work is chosen second by the client. Either way, have a good day. You guys need to lighten up , like you charro, i havent watched it before thats why im commenting on it and i wont watch it in the future because if i want to see rfb submissions that didnt win I can go to the rfb submission page and look at all the epic failures good and bad. I agree with eric in some respects, I think that seeing the selection process would be very interesting, and useful to contestants so that they can better understand what it takes to win or lose.
but I think you miss the point of the blog. its pretty entertaining, and the name is funny. these are failures. they dont deserve a prize, because they didnt win. (otherwise they would be winners) but they are great artists and because someone (fred) has been selected to be a curator of genius rocket, he gets to single out a piece that he likes and give it a bit more attention through his funny antics.
thats the point of art, its all opinion. someone is a curator, the make a show of what they deem as noteworthy work, and show it. This is no different from any gallery or museum in the world. If you dont get it, fine. but saying that " I dont like it" isnt constructive criticism at all, its just "pointless" like you say.
Ive seen alot of people criticizing the name of this blog, because they feel its disrespectful or misrepresentation. I dont at all, I think its perfect. this isnt a third grade spelling bee. there arent "runners up". you win the prize, or you lose. thats how art works. I think that john lyndon (johnny rotten) had something to say about art. I cant seem to find the quote online, but to paraphrase it was 'I think art is about failing as spectacularly as possible'. and thats just what this blog is about.
also I think that Selena is onto something pretty cool here. Cudos on the flying music symbols.

Personally, I don't mind that this blog is Fred's opinion. I think it was a great idea to have someone pointing out any of the other artists that have submitted. This shows that one design whether it wins or looses has an impact on someone, and in this case it was Fred.
Most of my artwork that I've done throughout the past 10 years was produced with the intention of making an impact on at least one person. I've done a lot of film festival and gallery work that I never minded if the majority didn't get it, just as long as someone out there said, "Hey, this is totally what I'm thinking". That way you can always expand on the same idea and branch it to the majority.
I say Kudos to Fred for keeping this idea rolling. I also like the title because it is sort of a play on words. Keep up the good work!
