Request

South by Southwest (SXSW), the premier event to experience all that is the digital convergence of music, film and interactive technology, wanted a 30 second to 2 minute video spot. They wanted to use a consistent look and feel across all media types, including print and digital environments. SXSW’s audience is highly sophisticated and keenly aware of the importance of quality content, which is why SXSW turned to GeniusRocket for their 2009 promotional video.

Challenge

Over the last two decades SXSW has become an internationally recognized force in the film and interactive media realms. SXSW is all about buzz built around new content and technologies. Since SXSW is a celebration of the convergence of music, film and interactive technologies, its promotional video had to show a diverse combination of creativity, technological excellence and marketing savvy. The video needed to reinforce some important elements of the SXSW brand, specifically:

  • An authority for technology and ideas in the entertainment industry
  • A "can't miss" event for technology enthusiasts and music lovers
  • Industry trendsetter status for music, interactive and film content
Additional Selections

Result

SXSW received 35 unique, broadcast-ready videos including live action, animation, motion graphics and CGI. Given the exceptional quality of the submissions, SXSW selected two videos to be used throughout the festival and in regional television promotions. The quality of the submissions so impressed SXSW that they found an artist among the non-winners whose work was used in other divisions of the event, demonstrating the strength of possibility found in the GeniusRocket community. These are the selections from the pool of rough cut submissions. After selection SXSW worked with the artists to deliver final high quality versions.
