About:

Mervis Diamond Importers is looking to produce clever print ads for placement within the spoof newspaper, The Onion. (www.theonion.com) We will be using our standard format, and are asking for ONLY THE TAG LINE. Take one of our diamond images from the attached files below and add a tagline. Submit your work as a .jpg. We will be selecting 5-15 submissions and printing one per week in the DC print edition of the newspaper.

Company/Brand/Product Background:

Mervis Diamond Importers (www.mervisdiamond.com) is the largest diamond retailer in the Washington, DC area. Over the past 20 some years, we have built a strong locally-recognized brand image as the South African diamond importer. Radio advertisements are recognized for their dramatic, Indiana Jones style, with Ronnie Mervis explaining his adventures in the diamond mines. One can hear the sound of dynamite exploding in the background and the mine shafts going deep underground.

I put some of the radio ads on youtube for you to better understand the branding:

In addition to radio and more traditional print advertising, we started this past year with an irreverent ad campaign in the Washington, DC print edition of The Onion. The paper is given out free on the streets of DC and its readership is predominately educated young professionals.

Marketing Objectives:

The objective with The Onion marketing campaign is to reach soon-to-be engaged young men, ages 24-34. As a diamond company, we have to remain classy and trustworthy, but given the context of a satirical newspaper, we have some latitude and can push the envelope. The key here is to be clever, not raunchy.

Winning submissions will actually be printed in The Onion newspaper. We will mail you physical copies for your enjoyment. Additionally, you are welcome to solicit The Onion with your proven talent and inquire about writing opportunities.

Houston, We have a Question...

Q&A for this creative brief

Submissions..
Posted by materialgraphics on 3.24.08

How do we submit the taglines we come up with?

Submissions...
Posted by Drew on 3.24.08

Please submit your entries to Mervis@GeniusRocket.com
Thanks

which one
Posted by carlhuber on 3.26.08

So, wait, do we upload JPGs to that tapatap rating website, or do we send JPGs to the mervis@geniusrocket.com?

Also as of right now it's not allowing me access to any of the Creative Elements.

Submissions...
Posted by Drew on 3.26.08

Please upload to tapatap, and send them via e-mail. This will help us to keep track of who submits each of the entries. I will have the Creative Elements looked into.

instead...
Posted by carlhuber on 3.27.08

...should we just use the one up there in the creative brief as a placeholder? I have a handful ready to submit.

Placeholder
Posted by Drew on 3.27.08

If you cannot get the creative elements to work that would be fine. We have not found a problem on our end, and many people have submitted with pics from the creative elements.

Posted by JMoore80 on 3.28.08

Can I submit all of my entries in one file, or do I need to submit each entry individually?

Submissions
Posted by Drew on 3.28.08

You may send all submissions in one e-mail, but must upload to our tapatap widget one by one.

No Creative Elements

I don't see creative elements either... they appear to be broken

Creative Elements
Posted by GeniusRocket on 3.28.08

They do work, we're getting tons of submissions that are utilizing them. Please try clicking the download button. (even if you don't see an image). If you are still having problems please use the contact form for "Tech Support" so that we can determine what browser and version you are using.

Well...
Posted by creative_me on 3.29.08

I can't see any of the creative elements right now.

Creative Elements
Posted by GeniusRocket on 3.29.08

Even if you cannot see the pics, the download option should still work. If not you can pull the image at the top of the RFB for your submissions. You DO NOT need to use the creative elements they are merely examples.

Still No to Creative Elements

Clicking download takes me to a "Whoops, you can't do that" page that mentions alpha testing.... Anyway, I already pulled some ring pics from the Mervis Diamond site :)

Drew for the Creative group...
Posted by terraform on 4.08.08

I am assuming that I do not have to create a new group for every entry.
correct? just one group and then post all of the entries on Tapatap and also email the above address with the same submissions. Correct?

That is correct.
Posted by Drew on 4.08.08

One group for all of your submissions.

Technically...
Posted by mkeian on 4.10.08

It's a headline. Not a tagline.

Technically...it's a tagline
Posted by Drew on 4.10.08

Headline: The title of an article; it is set in large, bold type. An explanatory title over a newspaper article summarizing the main point for the reader.
Tagline: A simple, poignant phrase used to set off a logo/ad. Short statement describing a/your company’s position or purpose. A statement or motto that succinctly defines or represents an organization’s mission.
;) Thanks!

Just curious...
Posted by cindala on 4.16.08

Will you be posting the chosen entries? Thanks!

Selected Entries
Posted by Drew on 4.16.08

Winner?
Posted by lgabriel on 4.22.08

I got an e-mail from Tapatap.com saying that that they chose a winner. Is the contest done?

Selections...
Posted by Drew on 4.22.08

The e-mail from tapatap was likely something internal to their site. Mervis is still pulling their selections and will announce as soon as they are finished.
Thanks!

Still curious...
